CARER SUPPORT WORKER

The focus of this service is to meet the needs of the parents, carers and their families. We understand and have some experience of the issues, concerns, questions and feelings that you may be experiencing at times.

We understand that you may need some support too…

The support offered may be as little as a caring listening ear or at times, as and when requested, the Carer Support Worker can be more supportive with certain issues that the family may have.

There may be a range of professionals and services in place for your youngsters but we recognise just how important it is to provide a service just for you.

The Carer Support Worker is Amanda Cox and she is based at Rutherford School, Monday to Thursday. Download leaflet here.

The service can be accessed by families/carers whose children currently attend, or may wish to attend, Rutherford School; one of the services of the Garwood Foundation.

    The following services can be offered:-
  • Information, advice and support is available on statutory Special Educational Needs procedures including Statutory Assessment, Statements, Reviews, transition and transport.
  • Attendance at Annual & 6 monthly reviews of all pupils.
  • Networking with other agencies and, where appropriate, liaising with other agencies and professionals on behalf of the family.
  • Advocacy support.
  • Acting as a link between the family and school.
  • Visits can be made to families at home or meetings can take place at school.
  • Practical and emotional support for families.
  • Assisting with writing letters, filling in forms, and helping to resolve any concerns families have.
  • Information can be given to families on services and organisations, schools, holidays, equipment, short-term breaks, benefits etc.,
  • Assistance with applications to charitable organisations for individual items (eg. Those not provided by statutory bodies), this might include holidays.
  • Supporting the school's parent/carer group, which is parent-led, and arranging presentations from appropriate services upon request.
