The Bramley Hill Centre provides a friendly environment, with work and occupational health
facilities for people with cerebral palsy and allied conditions.
Up to 60 adults from 18 years of age onward, with moderate to very severe disabilities, attend
Bramley Hill, coming mainly from Croydon and surrounding boroughs. Centre members are funded to
attend Bramley Hill by local authority sponsorship, but this funding is unable to meet all the
financial needs of running the Centre.

The aim of the centre is to encourage confidence, develop skills and to motivate the individual
to use their abilities to the full. The means of achieving these aims are; regular reviews and
assessments of each individual’s needs and objectives, then providing the necessary stimulus of
activities and suitable therapy where needed.
Facilities include two classrooms for adult education and a well-equipped physiotherapy department.
By using the combined skills of physiotherapy, living skills lessons and basic
education, we are hopefully co-ordinating all the needs of the members to achieve a better day
- to - day existence.

Independent living skills are taught on an individual basis in the training kitchen and a
Social Worker
is available to help all the Centre members with any problems they may have.
Bramley Hill has three workshops, offering a variety of work skills from light engineering, including
packing and assembly, to light clerical work. The income from the work performed is distributed to the
members in the form of an earning disregard.
Bramley Hill runs a social skills group on a voluntary basis, helping many members to use facilities in
the community and to gain confidence and self - esteem. Currently, 25 members are attending our twice -
weekly craft and sewing groups, producing some beautiful and useful items. Our art group, in conjunction
with the Old Coulsdon Art Society, have created some magnificent paintings, which have been on show at
the Fairfield Halls in Croydon.

The Centre members are encouraged to take an active part in the running of the centre and have their own
committee, of which one member is part of the management team.
Bramley Hill provides basic education lessons, usually on a one - to - one basis. These lessons allow for
each student to state their needs, arrange a programme of work for their individual requirements and
achieve a reasonable target for their efforts. "Paired work" also gives students a chance to learn
compatibility and tolerance as well as hear other points of view, which can only give a greater
understanding and level of interest.
